Governors

Chair of Governors:  Mrs Gillian Leonard

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

The DfE states that the governing board has three roles:

  • A strategic role focuses on the aims and standards of the school, usually embodied in the development plan, raising the standards of achievement of the school, and setting and reviewing the policies which form the broad framework through which the school operates.
  • A critical friend role involves monitoring and evaluating how the school is progressing and is based on a trusting relationship between the head teacher, staff and governors.
  • An accountability role involves accounting for the school’s performance and being able to explain decisions and actions to those with a legitimate interest.

Here are a few reasons why you might consider becoming a school Governor at Eastbury Farm

Under its leadership, you will be supporting a well-run, high-achieving school with settled staff and committed pupils.

If you decide to join the Governing Board you will be part of a team bringing a range of expertise and diversity in skills and experience that challenges and supports the school's leadership in all aspects of strategic direction and the achievement of continuous improvement.

A Governor does not simply attend meetings, review policies, make class visits and vote on decisions. More specific and detailed roles are assigned to "Link Governors", for example for finance, safeguarding, health and safety, plus curriculum topics. Through these contributions you will have the satisfaction of knowing you can make a real difference to the development of children and staff and thereby make the school the best it can be.

Statement of Behaviour Principles

The Governing Board have established a set of behaviour principles in order to guide the headteacher in determining measures to promote good behaviour and discipline amongst our pupils.

Our  Behaviour Principles

Our behaviour principles reflect our school values which are summarised through our mission statement ‘Nurturing and Developing our Children for the Future’.  Our vision that ‘children leave Eastbury Farm having been inspired to become confident successful learners, ready to explore their future as resilient and responsible individuals’ underpins these principles.

Eastbury Farm embraces the diversity of our community and we believe that everyone should be free from discrimination, harassment, victimisation of any sort.  Equity is when everyone gets what they need to achieve

Everyone has the right to feel safe all of the time.

Bullying or harassment of any description is unacceptable even if it occurs outside normal school hours.

Every pupil should be educated in an environment where they feel valued, listened to and respected.

Children should be encouraged to be accountable for their actions and the potential impact on themselves and others.

Consequences should enable a pupil to reflect on, and learn from a situation and to make reparation wherever possible.

Children should be supported to build self-discipline, empathy and emotional resilience through the development of strong self-regulation systems.

Adults in school should model, maintain, encourage and promote positive behaviour.

High expectations for positive behaviours and attitudes towards learning provide the foundations for our children to become responsible and resilient.

The school should work in partnership with parents/carers to develop and promote pro-social behaviours - and seek advice from appropriate outside agencies wherever necessary.

Suspension from school is a last resort. Any suspension should be issued in accordance with guidance from the Local Authority.
